Queens
Each tap turns a cell from empty to ×, then to a queen, then back to empty. A cell already showing × takes one tap to place a queen.
Logic puzzle
How to play Queens Game
Play Queens Game free in your browser, with nothing to install and no account to create. Queens Game is a logic puzzle on a square grid divided into colored regions. Your goal is to place queens so that every row, every column and every colored region holds exactly one of them, and no two queens touch. Each puzzle has exactly one solution, and you can reach it by deduction alone, without guessing.
The four rules
- Each row holds exactly one queen.
- Each column holds exactly one queen.
- Each colored region holds exactly one queen.
- Queens never touch, not even diagonally.
Touching includes the corners: a queen rules out all eight cells around it. That is the only diagonal rule. Unlike in chess, two queens far apart on the same diagonal are allowed, as long as they don't touch and each rule above still holds.
Placing queens on the board
Press Play on the cover to reveal the board. Each tap moves a cell through a cycle: empty, then ×, then a queen, then empty again. Use × to note a cell that can't hold a queen. A cell that already shows × becomes a queen with a single tap, and tapping a queen clears its cell.
When you place a queen, the game marks with × every cell that queen rules out: the rest of its row, the rest of its column, the other cells of its region and the eight cells around it. These auto markers look and work like your own ×. They clear by themselves once no queen rules the cell out any more, while the × marks you placed yourself stay until you remove them.
The game never stops you from placing a queen. If two queens break a rule, for example by sharing a row or by touching, both are highlighted for as long as the conflict lasts. The puzzle is solved the moment the last queen goes in with every rule met.
Reading the board
Every region needs exactly one queen, so start where the choices are fewest. The smallest region, two or three cells, narrows things down quickly. A region confined to one row is even better: its queen must be in that row, so no other cell of that row can hold a queen, and you can mark them all ×. The same goes for a region confined to one column.
The reasoning also works the other way round. If every cell still open in a row belongs to one region, that region's queen has to sit in that row, so the region's cells in other rows can be marked ×. Two regions confined to the same two rows claim both of those rows between them, which clears those rows for every other region.
Practical solving tips
Look for a row, column or region with only one cell left that can take a queen. That cell is a sure placement, and placing its queen will rule out more cells straight away.
Before you commit to a cell, ask what it would block. If every open cell of a region would rule out one particular cell elsewhere, that cell can't hold a queen, whichever cell the region's queen ends up in. Mark it ×.
Be generous with ×. Each mark shrinks the choices left in a row, a column and a region at once, and the next sure placement often appears after a few marks. If a step turns out wrong, Undo takes back one tap at a time.

How the Daily puzzle works
Queens Game has one new Daily puzzle every day. The Daily changes at midnight UTC, at the same moment for every player, so you and your friends always play the same board on the same day. Each puzzle is the Daily of one day only and never comes round again as the Daily.
The page picks the puzzle when it opens. If midnight UTC passes while you are solving, your board stays as it is; open the page again afterwards to get the new Daily.
Which puzzle you are playing
The line above the board names the puzzle: its number, the mode and the day it is the Daily of, as in "No. 5 · Daily · 5 Jan 2026". Numbers go up by one each day from No. 1, the Daily of 1 January 2026, and a puzzle keeps its number for good. The date is a UTC day, so it reads the same for everyone. Use the number when you talk about a puzzle with other players: the result you share names it too.
When to play the Archive or Unlimited
Missed a day? Every earlier Daily stays in the Archive, one month per page, newest first. A past puzzle plays just like today's, with the same rules and controls, so you can catch up on any day you skipped.
Want another board right now? Unlimited picks a puzzle at random from those already out, and its New game button switches to another whenever you like. It is the place to keep practising without waiting for tomorrow's Daily.
What the controls do
The timer starts when you press Play and shows minutes and seconds, up to 99:59. It keeps running through Reset, so your time always covers the whole solve.
Undo takes back your last tap, one step at a time, and can also undo a Reset. Reset clears every queen and × from the board so you can work through the grid again from the start.
Hint explains the next step from your current board instead of handing you the answer. It highlights the cells and the row, column or region the step rests on, says why, and, when the step rules cells out, shows which ones to mark ×; you make the marks yourself. If a queen or × on the board is in the wrong place, Hint points that out first. Press Hint again on the same step and it shows you the queen for that step.
When you solve the puzzle, a result dialog opens with your time, your personal best for that puzzle and your Streak: the number of UTC days in a row on which you have solved at least one puzzle. Share result sends a line with the puzzle number and your time, plus a link to the puzzle. From the dialog you can also go on to Unlimited or the Archive.
Your Streak and best times are kept in this browser only. They need no account, and they don't follow you to another browser or device.
FAQ
Is Queens Game free?
Yes, Queens Game is free to play in your browser. There is nothing to install and no account to create, and every puzzle and control on this page is free to use.
How do I play Queens Game?
Place one queen in every row, every column and every colored region, with no two queens touching, not even diagonally. Tap a cell once for × and twice for a queen, and work out each queen by deduction: every puzzle has exactly one solution.
Is there a new puzzle every day?
Yes, a new Daily puzzle comes out every day at midnight UTC. It is the same puzzle for every player, and no puzzle is the Daily twice.
Can I play yesterday's puzzle?
Yes, yesterday's puzzle and every earlier Daily stay in the Archive. Open it, choose the day's line and press Play: the puzzle plays just like today's.
Can two queens touch diagonally?
No, two queens may never touch, not even at the corners, so every queen rules out the eight cells around it. Queens on the same diagonal that are further apart are fine: this is not the chess rule.
What does Hint do?
Hint explains one logical step from your current board without giving the answer away. It highlights the cells involved and says why, and a second press on the same step shows that step's queen. A solve in which Hint showed you a queen still counts toward your Streak, but it sets no best time.
